Guess who is a photographer’s child?

:)   I met up with a photographer friend on Monday, Amanda Ayling.  We first met up at the Jinky workshop and we discovered we don’t live too far from one and other.   Finally we managed a photomeet.   Amanda bought one child, I bought four!   and yes, it was mayhem.    We did manage some shots though, in between two year old tantrums from a certain someone.    Amanda’s daughter is stunning!  omgosh, future model here.    Such a serene face and those eyes! wow.   And she was so sweet and well behaved too, wish I could say the same for my ‘pack’ of kids  (as I’ve taken to calling them lately!  They know they outnumber me now!)     Here are a couple of shots from our day, I have to put the others on hold while I finish other proofing first.    Hope you like them Amanda!   and thanks again!

looking very 60’s here…….

Canon Creative for a Cause Competition.

I have entered a photo in the Canon Creative for a Cause comp.   It is a great competition as by entering you get the chance to give back.   The winner will win $60,000 towards their nominated cause.     The cause I’ve nomintaed is stillbirth and my nominee is Sids and Kids.    When I lost my little girl, Sids and Kids helped me so much by providing group support sessions.    These support groups are wonderful.   Very confronting and scary at first, but after the first difficult visit I would look forward to going.     They provided a safe place where I could talk about my little girl and my feelings.    I shared and cried with other mums and dads and listened to the stories of their babies too.     They provide 24hr phone support also.

Sids and Kids also fund research into unexplained stillbirths, as well as their ongoing research into the causes of SIDS and sudden and unexpected death in infancy .  I was told that 80% of stillbirths  go unexplained, as ours did.  Our little girl was an otherwise healthy well nourished baby,  there was no reason for what happened.    I believe that 1 in every 200 pregnancies ends in stillbirth.

Here is a link to the Sids and Kids website and the services they provide,  Sids and Kids Services

And here is the link if you would like to vote for my photo.   It is one I took when last baby was only a few months old.  We had gone out to visit Tarnia (my lost baby girl)   This photo is  of my other two daughters sitting on the steps of the crypt where Tarnia lays at rest.      Thanks for reading.    Please vote here

i-had-a-baby

Kayleen T. - So sorry for your loss, I just voted..it's such a touching and beautiful picture.

caspix - that is such a powerful emotional image sam, I voted xxxx

Rhonda Kallio - your photo moved me to tears - I just voted too. Good luck

Clara - Oh Sam... thank you so much for sharing this beautiful image and your heart-breaking story with us... I had tears in my eyes. I've voted for you and I hope you don't mind, but I've posted it to my Facebook page and I've had several of my friends vote for your photo and they've posted it for their friends to see to get their friends to vote... so I'm hoping you get lots of votes!

christine - sam, your picture brought me to tears... i'm so sorry to hear about your tarnia, but so grateful that there are groups out there like sids and kids to help families going through similar tragedies. i voted and have passed on your blog to others! best of luck!

sampearce - Thank you everyone from the bottom of my heart. It is so sad, it moves forward with you through the years. You imagine what they would be like now at this age, you watch other children the same age and try to picture her. Sometimes I look at my four and imagine her in the middle. My girls are so alike, I think she would look similar too. So unfair. Thank you for linking it. There are many other causes on there too, so have a look around and vote for a few more, they are all equally as deserving. Thanks again, xxoo

Jenny Ruddle - Wow so very sad for you, off to vote for your beautiful image now.

Kym - Dear Sam, Thank you for sharing your journey with us. Without reading more, the picture already brought a tear to my eyes. Voted! and god bless

Shawn Fowler - Hi Sam. Im a flickr friend of your mom's. I love your website and blog. You do fantastic work. I told your mom I was jealous of your website layout. It was very nicely composed and easy to use. I wanted to let you know that I happily voted for your image in the Canon contest and wish you the best of luck. Shawn & Melissa USA

amanda ayling - This is a very beautiful and emotive image. I am so sorry that you had to experience the loss of a child. I am off to vote now, good luck.

Cathy Crawley - I voted for you darling, I hope you win :) Thanks for sharing your story, I hope it helps others, you are such a beautiful soul. xxx

Last fundraiser shoot

We were rained out!  But after having to already postpone, we were determined to get through it this time.  So we headed to a local historic pub nearby.  We found shelter and a great location, I think I like it better than the park anyhow!   I hope you like your sneak peek, Jess and Owen.   Miss A kept us all on our toes, as any good 17mth old will do!  I think we managed to get some nice shots though.   She is so very sweet!   I’m running behind in my proofing, I’m sorry.   I’ll be in touch very soon with those still waiting.

More autumn leaves and 2 more sweet little girls (Sydney Child Photographer)

Oh my gosh!  The light! The Colour!  and how beautiful are these two little ones!  Mum said that her older daughter would be very shy, but towards the end of the shoot she was tipping buckets of leaves on my head :)  Rhonda and Larry, thanks so much again.   Here are a couple of shots.  I hope you love them as much as I do.   I’ll have your gallery up soon.    Have to say Autumn is my most favourite season,  I don’t really enjoy the cold, but the colours and the light well make up for it!

Hope all the mums out there have a lovely day with your children.  Thought I’d put together some shots of some of the beautiful mums I’ve had the pleasure to meet.    Wishing you all lots of cuddles, smooches, breakfasts in bed and take away dinners!  :)

Lisa - Thank you Sam, that was very special! Hope you are all feeling better and wishing you a Happy Mothers Day also.

Margaux - Thanks Sam, I hope you had a very special Mothers Day xx

Renee Bell - great idea!!!! hope you had a good mothers day :-)

Just a check in post……..

to say I haven’t fallen off the earth.   I had to postpone our last fundraising shoot with Jess and family, as my whole household was knocked for six with a stomach bug.   For four days we were out!  Not nice at all.   But all better now and back into the processing.  Thanks for hanging in there Tamara and Family as well as Lisa and Family, I’m working on them and should have the galleries up very soon and the DVD’s off to you soon after that.     I received a big surprise in the mail the other day, sweet drawings from the little girls below, even the baby! :)  I loved them so much!   and also a teeny tiny beautiful crystal teddy bear!  I’m so touched, wanted to say thanks again,  he will be treasured!

Jess informed me that the Red Cross is no longer accepting donations for the bushfires, so she has donated to Sids and Kids for research for her session, which is equally a wonderful cause.  We have both known people touched by SIDs and  I have lost a baby to stillbirth.    So we were both happy to be able to help out this charity.  I think it might be something I’ll do as an ongoing thing in years to come.

Thanks for your patience, I’ll have them up asap…..     I can’t do a boring old text only post…….so here is a recent shot of my girl in the autumn leaves, love this one..   img_0237

Shannon S - lovely color on this one -- so funny your blogging about Autumn leaves and I am waiting for my lilacs to bloom!

Sam Pearce - oh Shannon, I would rather be waiting for lilacs to bloom, I hate winter! Don't like the cold, I miss summer already. You'll have to take a photo of your lilac, I'll have to watch out for it :)

Sharon - Gorgeous colours Sam! she is beautiful. It has been wonderful of you to donate your photo sessions to such wonderful causes, I have really enjoyed seeing your photo's.

Jennifer - Sorry to hear you have all been unwell, Sam. Tough, isn't it, when mum goes down with the bug too! Gorgeous photo of your girl. Your use of colour is always spot on. And your generosity with your donations is inspirational. The world needs more people like you!

amanda ayling - Beautiful photo of your daughter Sam! I hope everyone is feeling well again.

Cathy Crawley - How adorable is your baby girl! I love this shot Sam :) Hope you are all well now xx

sampearce - Thanks everyone again! Cathy, we aren't! Still sick with a throat bug this time, all the kids and myself......grrr to the cold! Hopefully we are getting all the bugs out of the way early this season! I love this shot too....:)

Valeska - Hi Sam, just admiring your work and totally fell in love with this one. Beautiful.

Sam Pearce - Thanks so much Valeska! :)

One word - Delightful

Here is some shots from shoot 4 of the Bushfire Fundraisers.   These three little girls were just pure delight, I had so much fun.  Loved them!  I look at these shots and  they have me thinking of lollies, candy colours and just sweetness in general :)   Kim and Lisa, thanks so much again, I hope you like your sneak peeks.    To everyone else I am getting through the mountain of proofing!   It won’t be long till I get your shots up.  I’m going to email you with a password protected gallery as well, you can view all of the shots through my website.  I’ll let you know as soon as they are up, and then send out your DVD folios soon after.

Cathy Crawley - These are so cute ;)

A before and after photo, me going crazy in photoshop….

So, it was late last night, and sometimes late at night I get in a photoshop zone…lol.    I start something and it takes on a life of it’s own and I can’t even remember the steps I took to get to the finished image.   I used to paint portraits of people’s horses and it was the same for me then.  I would wait till everyone was asleep, put on my headphones with some inspiring music blaring, and start painting and wait for the ‘zone’ to hit me.    When it did I would forget where I was and just draw something out from inside.   I once did a painting from start to finish in one night……actually I’ll show you that one, I think I have a shot on my computer of it.    Usually it would take me 2wks to do a painting, but this night I was in my zone.  ha ha.    So, anyway, I don’t get to paint now….too difficult atm.   But I get the same thrill via photoshop.  Sometimes, late at night I get into my zone and just go with the flow and see where it leads me.   I wouldn’t tend to go this far with client photos.   This kind of extreme processing is more for my fun,  however  I really like how this one came out………might just be me who sees it though!   what do you think?   This is from the Jinky workshop, I’ve finished processing all the shots I managed to get on the day.  So I’ll be sending them off to Barb soon.    So, here is the straight out of camera shot or SOOC.

img_0344sooc

Isn’t she gorgeous!   and here is where I ended up.  I think I started with by using curves and levels in photoshop.  Then different blending mode layers, like Mulitply and soft light.  Playing with the saturation and sponge tool.  I also burned and dodged and used a texture over the top.  But I can’t quite remember exactly what I did!   Don’t ask me to do it again, I wouldn’t be able too I don’t think.

img_0344

and here is a shot of the painting I did one night.  I started with a blank piece of paper and finished in the morning with this..  this painting was of an arabian stallion called Simeon Shai.  Terrible quality, wish I had better photos now.

simeonshai

caspix - oh wow sam, that painting is amazing! truly! you should paint more my friend

Jen - Wow! I love what you did with the photo processing? you really won't be able to do it again? that is a real shame. I love the result. You're painting is beautiful :) you are very talented.

Shannon - wow that photo is amazing -- and you are very talented. I could never paint something so amazing!

Sam Pearce - thank you :) I was so passionate about my horses, that passion used to just flow from my heart and through my fingers. I just don't have the time anymore.

Jennifer - Love the post processing, Sam. And you should show these things to your clients, too. They might surprise you!

Back online! and it’s sneak peek time!!

Finally!  I’m back up and running, had a new message on my phone today…..”Hi, it’s Telstra, your phone is fixed, bye”   yeah, well thanks very much and about time, I’ll send you the bill.  So I can finally get some shots from shoot 2 and 3 up on here.   I’m still working on all the photos,  so here is just a sweetener for you :)    Stephanie, I’ll be in contact soon, I have yours almost ready to send out.    Hope you like the sneak peeks Nicole and Tamara, of some of the pics so far.   Thanks so much, you were all lovely to work with.
